ABOUT THIS PROJECT
I recently pitched a very personally exciting, vibrant and unique idea for a video treatment to a major artist, one of my favorite recording artists, and my idea was subsequently brought to a producer in Los Angeles without my knowledge or consent. The video concept I had written went on to be to be mildly adapted, seen by 3 million people, and nominated for an MTV Video of the Year award. I did not receive any credit for this and at the time of viewing this was so shocked and floored I lost all composure and sense of meaning about what it is to be an artist.
After speaking with many people who have supported me, including well-established artist mentors and friends, I decided to make a short film about artistic integrity. I feel many have lost sight of honoring one another as fellow beings, respecting the vision of one another and treating each other ethically in favor of 'getting rich quick' at the expense of another. I have started a small hopeful film to encourage the under-represented artist, to overcome this adversity, and am interviewing some of my mentors on the topic of artistic authenticity, mentorship, and ethical artistic practice. Interviews currently include Gilles Bensimon (photographer), Derek Trucks (musician), Hanna Mattes (artist), Sean Fader (artist), Carmen Giordano (attorney). Making something positive out of something negative.
Official short release will be on December 16th, 2011.
With the ever increasing interest and support of this project, I am considering making it a full length feature in 2012 in order to incorporate all the lovely people who have expressed support as well as those whom I admire.
Thank you for your support. Below is an open letter to the artist, which was not responded to personally, but with a legal letter instead. Cheers.
Love, Bon Jane

OPEN LETTER:
Hi guys,
I hope you're really well and excited about your new album release.
I'm interested to talk about how it appears that my pitch to you ended up making it to another producer without acknowledging that you used my idea, and without my consent.
I'm sure you might be able to see how there are several options we have of going forward with this.
Would you like to start this conversation with me personally?
I would personally love to start with the integrity of this option first. Artist to artist.
In kindness,
Rachel
