I think a lot of cultural appropriation is also caused by the misinformation on what the various Native American tribes were like. If you happen to be more nature-centered in your spirituality other people mistakes you for practicing "Native American Spirituality" or if you make any handmade work yourself using beads, feathers, or whatnot people mistake if for "Native American" when it is not.

Thank you so much, @JanessaBessBeauty, for this video. I have watched only 2 minute and forty seconds of it, and already I understand the idea of cultural appropriation and why exactly it offends people a million times better than I did before. You put your argument in such clear, understandable terms, and I hope it helps educate a lot more people. I will be sharing and passing it on (and, of course, watching the rest).

Once again you're argument is invalid. I'm not debating whether their lives are shitty or not. Like I said before "your correlation between scantily clad white women dressed as Indians are the cause of rape of Indian women is incorrect." That's the argument here. Not who's lives are shittier, or who gets raped more. And stop acting like you're the All Knowing Ambassador of the Indian people cause you're not.

Go read about native womanhood. I'd suggest Kim Anderson's book, A Recognition of Being: Reconstructing Native Womanhood. Native women have the highest rape rate by white men in North America. That means white men rape native women more often than white women. When my white friends walk down the street, nothing. When my native friends to, cat calls, racist sex jokes. Most of my native girl friends have been raped and they aren't even 25 yet. Until you've been there, don't talk.

Women in general have been perceived as sex objects. Rape is not exclusive to Indian women. As long as there are scantily clad women posing for photographs, women will always be perceived as sex objects. Not just Indian women.

Yeah it does. Because the Native Princess or the Squaw has been perceived as a sex object since colonization. White women in sexy native princess outfits just keep the idea going that native women are just sex objects.
