It is not a depressing song. I think it is sort of bittersweet. It's about two people who loved each other who couldn't work out together but were able to move on with their lives nonetheless. Gwen loves him so much that, even though she is still in love with him, she can be happy just because he is happy, with or without her. That's how true love should be.
