The democrats didn't control the presidency. It was a deadlocked situation with Republicans in the Executive and Democrats in Congress. It wasn't until Obama came in did the Democrats really control all branches, and the economy had already gone to shit by then.
The Republicans ran incredible deficits during periods of prosperity--when governments are much more able to balance their coffers. Balancing budgets during recession is much, much harder... which is why the deficit exploded w/ obama

ACTUALLY, the truth is all this spending is EXACTLY what they want you to believe will fix this economy. But just like the DEPRESSION, when they first tried this tax and spend shit all they managed to accomplish is to EXTEND the depression. See tax money is OUR MONEY. If we are allowed to keep it we spend it where we need it in our communities. "Sacrifice their futures".Isn't that what the REPUBLICANS do every time they CUT education.DIDN'T they sacrifice what would have been a GREAT present and future by digging US into this HOLE in the 1st place.THEY took a POSITIVE and turned it NEGATIVE.They take care of the FAR right end of the demographic at the expense of THIS COUNTRY.

As I recall, it wasn't TIMOTHY GEITHNER who went to CAPITAL HILL in the FALL of '08.It was W's boy HANK PAULSON who basically said "I need $700 billion for the BIG BANKS or the sky's gonna fall in."The TARP was W's baby.It was a DONE DEAL by the time OBAMA took office.Criticize the stimulus if you want,but don't blame OBAMA for the TARP.EVERYONE talks SHIT about BOTH the stimulus AND the TARP,but WHO would risk facing this crisis WITHOUT them?DEPRESSION=3 x current unemployment.

Under the fiscal year attributed to Bush, Obama planned and signed $868 Billion stimulus, which had nothing to do with Bush. $700 Billion TARP happened under Obama's watch.
